Sad as I am to see summer go (sniff!), fall is my absolute favourite season when it comes to fashion. I would gladly hand over all of my shorts and tees in exchange for cozy knits, great jeans and sumptuous fall boots. And don't even get me started on the coats (we'll tackle that later...)
Now that school's back in session and we're back into a routine, it's the perfect time to focus on you. This season, I challenge you to try something brand new. These 12 little pieces will instantly (and oh-so-stylishly) update your look. Happy fall, y'all! So excited to share the season's best finds from White Oaks Mall with you; consider this your warm-up exercise x
FALL 2012's TOP 12
1) A Bright Envelope Clutch Legacy Leather iPad Clutch, $178, Coach
Whether you're heading out for the afternoon or checking out the cocktail list at your fave after-work bistro, a bright, oversized clutch will give your look an instant colour pop. I love this celeb-endorsed Coach clutch because it comes in loads of saturated shades and is large enough to stow your iPad, cellphone and other essentials.
2) Polka Dots Calf Hair Loafers, $49.95, Gap
These flats have Kate Spade written all over them. The graphic black and white print will go with almost everything you own and is so much more interesting than a plain black shoe. Compliments guaranteed!
3) A Chic, Studded Extra Studded Bracelet, $15, ALDO
Black is back in a big way this fall. After so many seasons of rainbow-bright colours, shades of black look modern and dramatic. Look for geometric black & gold extras this season, perfect to add edge to a Victorian-era outfit (think furs, military coats and Victorian booties a la Anna Karenina) or to complement a '30's-inspired deco look (think Great Gatsby-inspired flapper fringe and drop waists). Both movies, BTW, will be out this fall. Yay!
4) Printed Pants Printed Trousers, $59.95, H&M
If you're a trendsetter or at the very least, willing to step outside the box, test out a pair of printed pants this fall. The key? Keep the rest of your outfit streamlined and simple with solid, neutral layers. Easy!
5) Classic Riding Boots Riding Boots, $190, ALDO
A classic investment, a great pair of tall, flat boots will last for years and always look chic. These boots from ALDO are part biker, part equestrian and are perfect to wear with long skirts, short skirts, leggings or skinny jeans all season long. Giddy up!
6) Anything Bordeaux Viscose-Blend Cardigan, $39.95, Le Château
The surprising It-shade of the season is bordeaux (okay, fine, burgundy but bordeaux sounds better because fashion people like anything French) Wear it with denim, cream, grey, navy, black or even pink. You'll be surprised how versatile it can actually be.
7) Perfect Leggings Tasha Legging, $139.50, Club Monaco
You've done the legging thing for the past few years but if you have yet to invest in a really good pair, this is your year. This season, look for interesting finishes like waxed coatings, leather inserts or interesting details to liven up your look. This pair from Club Monaco will be well worth the investment. Wear them fully-exposed if you love your legs, or under a long sweater if you'd rather keep it low-key.
8) A Bold, Statement Pump Nine West Leopard Ankle-Strap Pump, The Bay
These shoes have got it all going on: ankle-strap, colour-blocking and leopard print. Imagine what this could do to your black pants/white shirt work uniform. I hate to use the word game-changer so I won't, (but they really are...)
9) Bright Bottoms 1969 Sexy Boyfriend Cords, $79.95, Gap
Bright pants, once solely available in skinny form, are now available in literally every fit. I love these slouchy cords from Gap because you will wear them all season to work (with pumps) or on the weekend (with loafers or over ankle boots). Find them in cobalt blue, red, grass green or mustard yellow to keep it colourful when the grey weather arrives.
10) A Studded Flat Studded Loafer, $80, ALDO
The loafer/smoking slipper (as we've already discussed) is the new flat of the season and a little more cool, a little less predictable, than a ballet. But perhaps more important to note is the prevalence of pink for fall, as forecasted by the colour authorities at Pantone. These flats would be perfect with the bordeaux cardi above (see #6)
11) An Oversized Tote Leather Rory Satchel, $398, Coach
This fall is all about the massive, oversized bag. The top-handles lend this Coach bag structure while the long strap makes it practical for everyday wear. Buy it in black or tan and you'll wear it every day. Though of course, you would never have to convince me that a bright colour is a good idea, too...
12) A Python Piece Jones New York, The Bay
Surprisingly, the python trend that was so prevalent for spring has shown serious staying power for fall. A little python extra, be it a belt, a shoe or a blouse looks lovely and current. Head to the Bay and you'll find some well-made python prints from Jones New York and Vince Camuto. If you're not into reptiles, a good leopard print will always (strong word in fashion but I'm now convinced of this) be in style.
