Christmas is over (can you believe it?) and if you're at all like me, today is a day for chilling, then shopping, then chilling some more. But as I chill and shop on Boxing Day, I always find myself reflecting. I think of all the things I did this year - the good, the bad and the ugly - wondering how it all went so fast and wondering what 2014 will bring. And while I don't place all chances of future success on my New Year's outfit, I do feel that dressing up on the 31st is a tradition worth upholding.
To me, a glittery pair of heels, a fab frock or a festive tuxedo blazer is my little way of celebrating the year that's gone by and ushering in a brand new year. And whether that outfit brings good luck or not, whether anyone other than my little group of friends and family even notices what I'm wearing or not, I like to think that putting in a little extra effort into my NYE look is like a little champagne toast to where I am right now.
To all of you who read our blog from all of us here at White Oaks, Happy New Year to you! Hope 2014 is the best year yet!

The Trend: Embellished Sweatshirts
How to Wear It: Whether you're chilling at home with your besties or heading out to a bar, this piece can be dressed way up or way down. Add a black or silver mini and killer heels for a big bash or tone it down with black leggings and flats for a cozy New Year's in.
The Trend: Assymetrical Minis
How to Wear It: Kiss, Kiss (read: Keep It Simple, Sweethearts!) A plain white tee, slouchy black or navy sweater, or even a grey sweatshirt will help this fabulous skirt shine bright like a disco ball.
The Trend: Statement Heels
How to Wear Them: These shoes will instantly liven up any neutral look, whether it's head-to-toe grey, a white shirt and black skinny crops, or even your standby LBD.
The Trend: Nail Effects
How to Wear It: With a smile, of course. Oh, and a little topcoat to keep that maje mani in place.
The Trend: Tuxedo Blazers
How to Wear It: You'll get loads of mileage out of this classic blazer, and won't believe how sexy such a masculine style can be. Keep it classic with a pair of matching tailored trousers and a cami, or layer it over your party frock to ward of the December/January chill.
The Trend: The Perfect Red Lip
How to Wear It: I'll say it before, and I'll say it again: Heat Wave is a celeb fav for a reason. It's moisturizing, party bright, and the ideal shade of celebratory red. Be sure to use a lip primer first to help it stay put during all that midnight smooching.
The Trend: Statement Earrings
How to Wear Them: If you're going to bother getting your hair and makeup 'did', sparkly earrings will draw attention to all your megawatt beauty. Leave off the necklace and opt instead for rings or a bracelet for the biggest sartorial impact.
The Trend: Feathered Frocks
How to Wear It: If you're brave enough to go bare-legged, add some bronzer, a cropped moto jacket, and a pair of killer heels. Otherwise, opt for opaque black tights for an equally head-turning look.
The Trend: Plaid Shirts
How to Wear It: Plaid is such a huge trend this season, but there's no reason to reserve it for Homeland marathons on the couch. Instead, show up your fellow revelers by pairing it with a pair of real or faux-leather leggings, strappy heels and a feminine clutch. Genius!
The Buy: Flannel Plaid Shirt, $29.95, H&M
The Trend: Embellished Clutches
How to Wear It: When it comes to NYE, you can toss practicality right out the window. This perfect little clutch will easily hold your keys, ID, money, lipstick and smartphone for your fun night out.
The Trend: Metallics
How to Wear It: New Year's is your time to shine, whether you're a big sparkle fan or not. This grey party dress isn't too over-the-top but still makes a killer style statement thanks to its sequin embroidery on the bodice.
The Trend: Embellished Collars
How to Wear It: An embellished blouse is gorgeous with black skinnies (see above - LOVE!) under a black sweater, or even with jeans if you're staying in. At this price, it's pretty tough to say no, no?
The Trend: Dressed-Up Loafers
How to Wear Them: Kicking it fireside this Dec 31st? Forego your old slippers and instead, shuffle from your bar fridge to the Times Square coverage in these celebratory gold loafers.
The Trend: Ornate Masks
How to Wear Them: If there's one time of the year that you can unapologetically dress up (other than Hallowe'en of course), it's New Year's. Whether you're heading to a costume party or not, you'll be the life of the party with this pretty, playful mask.
The Buy: Embellished Mask, $14.95, H&M
The Trend: Pantone's Colour of Spring 2014: Dazzling Blue
How to Wear It: Pantone declared 'Dazzling Blue' as the top colour for Spring '14, but we see no reason to wait. Rock this vibrant blouse this NYE with a metallic mini or a black flouncy skirt.
The Trend: The LRD (Little Red Dress)
How to Wear It: Nothing says party like a little red dress. In a sea of black, you're guaranteed to stand out. Just keep your lips and nails understated to avoid looking garish.
The Trend: False Lashes
How to Wear Them: Practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to falsies. Luckily, this kit comes in varying degrees of glam so you can start perfecting your technique a few days before the big night.
The Trend: The Party-Ready Jumpsuit
How to Wear It: While onesies might seem meant for the very young, this spaghetti-strap black jumpsuit if far from juvenile. Pair it with loose waves, red lips and super strappy heels for an enviable NYE look.
The Trend: Statement Bib Necklaces
How to Wear It: Dainty necklaces and tiny earrings are fine for everyday but for New Year's, it's all about excess. We think this crazy gorgeous bib necklace is awesomely excessive, don't you?
The Trend: Black & White
How to Wear It: Going to a swank cocktail party? This abstract printed dress will make you look like a sexy sophisticate, even if you're not quite there yet. Add a pair of strappy heels, a simple black clutch, statement earrings and short red nails to finish off your look.
